These microorganisms include the possibility of staph and E.coli, which can multiply rapidly at room temperature and thus cause food borne illnesses.

When down to the last piece, no matter how an apple pie was made, remain assured that refrigeration storage has given an apple pie it’s best shot at longevity.

Custard pies all need to be refrigerated. Because of the egg content in the pies, they have a higher risk of salmonella and should not remain on the counter for longer than an hour.

Pies with meringue toppings should be refrigerated at all times due to the egg content of meringue.
